1. Keep away from water.
While a Himalayan Salt Lamp can add serenity to any location, it’s best to keep it away from anywhere water could come in contact with the surface. Never immerse it in water, and never use soap when cleaning.

2. Keep it warm (keep it on!)
Salt lamp owners often are confused when the lamp appears to be “sweating” or leaking. The reason for this is because salt is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs moisture from the air. This causes moisture droplets to gather on the lamp (you can also sometimes find them on your salt grinder, if you have one!) A little bit of moisture is not bad for your Himalayan Salt Lamp, but it is best to avoid this by keeping your lamp on 24/7.

3. Wipe down with a damp rag.
While purists will say a Himalayan Salt Lamp is naturally self-cleansing and doesn’t need to be cleaned, it’s common for a salt lamp to gather dust over time. To keep your lamp lookin’ so fresh and so clean, wipe off the dust (when needed) with a slightly damp microfibre cloth. Make sure you unplug it first, to be safe!

4. Make sure you use the right lightbulb.
What some Himalayan Salt Lamp owners don’t realize is that the lightbulb you use within the lamp makes all the difference. If you try to use a regular LED, the lightbulb will not emit the right amount of heat to make the salt “work”; in order for the salt to heat up enough to have any impact on the air, the lightbulb needs to be at least 15 watts.
